DESCRIPTION:
This Tom Blake Replica Hollow Surfboard was crafted by Dirk Langer of Vintage Wooden Surfboards in Cayucos California. Commissioned in 2009, this vessel is a especially unique in that the deck and belly are made of redwood planks rather than a full width plywood skin. This method is much more painstaking with each piece being hand fitted and glued before being tacked in place with brass nails and machine screws. Internal construction is true to Tom Blake's 1930's plans with hollow center, ribs and baron-beam creating the framework for a slightly curved bottom rocker and almost flat deckline. Rails are solid redwood planks. Aged solid oak tail block. Sealed with 10-12 coats of spar varnish, matte finish. Period brass drain plug bolt in deck. A year long endeavor of fine craftsmanship, showcased in each hand-worked piece of wood to make a sea worthy vessel in the exact style of the 1930's hollow board era, a-la Tom Blake.
